This Blue Star Tribute is for Dad and my friend Ron both of whom died from colon cancer in spring of 2007. I will be riding my bike across the southern USA beginning February 2010. I have some informational materials from the Colon Cancer Alliance. I hope to raise awareness of the benefits of colon cancer screening.
Dad graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1944. He was trained as a pilot of both B-24 Liberator and B-29 Superfortress bombers. He left military service in 1950 and joined his Dad and brother in a very successful car dealership. He hand-built a Y- flyer sailboat and sailed throughout the midwest and south, winning several regattas. A student of American wars, Dad studied the significant campaigns of the Civil War, walking the battlefields of Shiloh, Stones River, and others. He served on the Library Board and was instrumental in helping build the new library on Main Street. Dad was a member of the Elks, and an accomplished bridge player. He hit a hit a hole-in-one on Father's Day.
Ron was an IT expert and later started a very successful IT consulting firm. He loved life and his family. Ron was my fishing buddy. We had some amazing experiences while fishing including being visited by pelicans one special day on the Oregon coast. Wanting to fish until the very end, Ron always waited until we got to the dock to reel in his line. He reached the dock way too soon.
I will try to post daily journal entries and photos of my bike journey at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/jvogler Thanks!

Plan++ Schedule performed very well throughout our test works and there are hardly any launching moments to speak of.
