Talk to your Communications
Department about including a few sentences about the Dress in Blue Day
program and colon cancer in your company newsletter, on the website or
in employees' email signatures. Check out our sample newsletter
article and web banner.
Hold a lunch
& learn on Dress in Blue Day. Invite a local
gastroenterologist to speak briefly (20 minutes) about colon cancer and
screening methods or give your own presentation using our Colon
Cancer Awareness Speaker Kit. Asking a staff member who has a personal
connection to colon cancer to speak could also be helpful, when possible.
Afterwards, play colon cancer trivia and award prizes such as colon cancer awareness bracelets to the employees who remember what they learned. Talk to Human Resources about promoting the event and possibly providing lunch for employees who attend.
Hold a dress-down
day on Dress in Blue Day. Employees may dress
casually if they donate $10 to the Colon Cancer Alliance (you can
coordinate donation collection) and wear blue. Denim counts! Talk to your
Human Resources Department or manager for approval, and then promote the event
to all your coworkers! Mail in the donations with a completed Dress
in Blue Day fundraising form and be sure to take a picture
and send it to the Colon Cancer Alliance!
Put together
a blue costume contest to see who can be the most
creative! You may charge a $10 fee to enter the contest or collect
donations as votes (for example: $5 = 1 vote). Contestants must wear blue
to be eligible. Purchase a t-shirt from the Colon Cancer Alliance's online store to award to the best costume. Again, remember to send us a picture!
Organize a coffee
fast. For every day someone goes without coffee, ask them to donate
the money they would have spent on the purchase ($3-5). Create a chart
showing everyone’s progress to spark a bit of competition. Encourage
everyone to go one to two weeks.
Ask Human
Resources to include the Dress in Blue Day mini flyer with payroll checks.
Use your company’s
window space to show your support. Download the Dress in Blue Day poster and write a message to the community.
Ask for a Corporate
Matching Gift. Ask your company to match the amount of donations you
receive from your fellow co-workers.
Organize
an Office Fundraising Challenge. Encourage your coworkers to
challenge each other in raising the
highest amount of money for Dress in Blue Day.
Give the winner a prize, such as movie passes, a t-shirt, or a gift certificate to a
restaurant of his or her choice.
Buy dessert,
a box of donuts or cupcakes, and sell it at the office. See if you can get
the sweets donated or purchased at a lower cost so you raise more money!
Light
your building or home in blue lights. What better way to grab
people's attention than dousing your home or workplace in blue lights?
Create an online fundraising team with others in your office to awareness and funds for Dress In Blue Day. Each person at the office easily get involved by giving a donation, sending emails to friends and family and/or spreading the team's message on social media.
